Why a winter wedding can be wonderful…
Many wedding couples tend to aim for a summer wedding, especially if any part of the wedding proceedings is to take place outdoors and no bride wants to walk own the aisle freezing in her strapless dress. But winter weddings can be just as beautiful and there are definitely benefits to having your celebration in the colder season. Here’s why we think a winter wedding is worth considering:
It’s cosy and romantic
A roaring winter fire at the reception, maybe some sherry or mulled wine to warm up your guests, delicate lighting on a frosty winter’s night with snow capped mountains in the background… Winter weddings can be completely charming and magical!
The weather is still pleasant in South Africa
Although winter in other parts of the world often means snow and icy weather, in South Africa many regions still have lovely sunny days (in the region of 20⁰ C +) in between the colder temperatures. While this might not mean that you should have a beach wedding, the mild temperatures are definitely still great for a function, outdoor photo shoots and your wedding dress won’t have to be a snow suit. In fact if you have guests from Europe or other colder regions they might even thank you that they aren’t going to be melting in their evening gowns and suits during a scorcher summer wedding in Africa.
Everything is cheaper during low season
If you don’t have an unlimited budget, booking a wedding venue during the winter season is usually cheaper and many places even have winter specials. Plus the venues are less likely to be booked out far in advance, as they usually are during the summers months, especially over December. Accommodation is also likely to be cheaper for you and your guests, not to mention a possibly more affordable honeymoon, depending on where you are planning go. For example, winter is known to be the best time to visit places like the Kruger National Park for a safari honeymoon!
